Ms Pan Jiangxue, an alumnus of the Central University of Finance and Economics with a master’s degree in Finance and distinguished experience in financial executive roles, has demonstrated remarkable commitment to educational philanthropy through her pioneering work with the Shanghai Adream Foundation. Her transformative journey from finance to philanthropy began following extensive field research (2002-2007) in Sichuan’s Jiarong Tibetan region, where she identified systemic limitations in traditional educational charity models. This critical insight led to the establishment of Adream Foundation in 2008, with the dual mission of “developing competency-based education” and “fostering lifelong learning” (Adream Foundation Annual Report, 2024).
During seventeen years of dedicated service, Ms Pan has developed an innovative “hardware-software-service” model for equitable education through her strategic incorporation of business management principles into philanthropic practice, yielding multiple industry benchmarks. Notably, Adream became China’s first charity to adopt listed-company financial disclosure standards (2009), maintained top ranking on Forbes China‘s Philanthropy Transparency Index for four consecutive years (2009-2012), and achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification (2017) - unprecedented accomplishments in China’s nonprofit sector.
Ms Pan’s leadership exemplifies what scholars term “philanthropic entrepreneurship”, characterised by her cross-sector alliance building and systems-change approach. The 2023 “Dream Project” initiative, implemented under the guidance of China’s Ministry of Education, established innovative coastal-hinterland school partnerships through programmes like “Illuminating Borderland Schools”. As of 2024, the Adream Foundation has supported over 6,200 Dream Centers with Whole Person Education-based courses, serving 7.1 million beneficiaries across 981 districts, representing approximately 3.1% of China’s primary schools. Addressing demographic shifts observed in recent years, Ms Pan’s “Golden Dreamers” initiative represents an innovative application of Singaporean lifelong learning and American senior entrepreneurship models to China’s ageing context. Her scholarly contributions include two seminal works: Effective Love: Theorizing Chinese Philanthropy and Envisioning Future Education, which have become essential references for understanding China’s unique philanthropic ecosystem. The former was shortlisted for the 2023 For Good Awards and honoured among the Top 10 Academic Research Studies of the Year.
Internationally, Ms Pan broke new ground as the first Chinese grassroots educator to keynote at the Comparative and International Education Society conference (CIES, 2023), presenting China’s educational innovation narrative to global academia. Adream’s subsequent shortlisting for UNESCO’s Hamdan Prize (2024) further validated the model’s global relevance.
Ms Pan has been consistently recognised for her philanthropic leadership through China’s most prestigious honours, including: Southern Weekly’s 2014 “Responsibility Leader”, 2017 “CCTV Annual Philanthropy Figure”, 2019 “National Woman Pace-setter”, 2021 poverty alleviation award, 2022 “Shanghai Philanthropy Award” and 2023 “Philanthropist of the Year” awarded by China Philanthropist Magazine, etc...
Of particular significance to BNBU is Ms Pan’s sustained implementation of Whole Person Education principles across Adream’s 38-course curriculum framework since 2009. The “Dream Trailblazer” teacher training program, piloted at BNBU, has become a nationally recognised model for competency-based pedagogical reform. Over the years, the Shanghai Adream Foundation and Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) have jointly carried out numerous charitable service projects. Through its sustained commitment, the Foundation has empowered 513 BNBU students with summer volunteer opportunities, investing over 3 million RMB in these programmes.
Mr Chairman, in light of Ms Pan’s groundbreaking contributions to educational equity, her scholarly impact on philanthropic theory, her dedication to promoting Whole Person Education principles and her exemplary bridge-building between academia and practice, the University respectfully recommends her conferment as Honorary Fellow.
