Profile of Mr. LIU Changle

Mr LIU Changle is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited. Founding Phoenix Satellite Television Company Limited in 1996, Mr Liu has gained widespread recognition both locally and overseas for his enthusiasm and achievements in the Chinese media industry. He is also a visiting professor at a number of mainland universities, and has been appointed to the board of directors of Nanjing University, Tongji University and Huaqiao University. Mr Liu was conferred an honorary doctoral degree in literature by the City University of Hong Kong and was appointed as the Chairman of the College International Advisory Board by the University’s College of Business. In 2010, he was awarded a Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government.

Mr. Liu Changle is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited. He is a prominent media entrepreneur, business leader and educator. He has made significant contributions to the development of China's media industry.

In 1996, Mr. Liu founded Phoenix Satellite Television Company Limited in Hong Kong. It has become a globally renowned trans-national multimedia group with six television channels as well as a diversity of interests in the Internet, weekly magazine, publication, radio and education. The aim of the Phoenix Satellite TV has been from its outset to bring Chinese people closer together from different regions of the world and to provide quality programmes to them. The programmes of the Phoenix Satellite TV have continued to be well-planned and innovative, marked by a deep commitment to historical and humanistic concerns. Highly successful in creating for itself a brand image and a team of high-caliber anchorpersons, Phoenix Satellite TV has leveraged these progressive strategies to become a well-established leader in the media industry within a short period. These strategies, formulated by Mr. Liu, are based on his global perspectives and on his enthusiasm for media as well as his profound sense of commitment and responsibility to society.

In 1980, Mr. Liu graduated from the Beijing Broadcasting Institute, renamed Communication University of China. He served as a reporter, editor, news commentator, and senior manager at the China National Radio Station. He is passionately devoted to the mission of creating a global Chinese community engaged in dialogue with the entire world. Phoenix Satellite TV is a realization of that dream. In the past, if someone asked him the things he had felt most proud of since the establishment of the Phoenix TV, he would not hesitate to answer: “Gathering together the media professionals from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan on the same platform so that, like brothers and sisters, they can work together in harmony.” Phoenix Satellite TV attracts the media elites working together to produce programmes for Chinese-speaking societies in the world. Today, with Mr. Liu's dream expanded and his sense of social responsibility further increased, Phoenix Satellite TV has developed into a multi-channel media group, including Phoenix Chinese Channel, Phoenix Chinese News and Entertainment Channel in Europe, Phoenix North America Chinese Channel, Phoenix InfoNews Channel, Phoenix Movies Channel, and Phoenix Hong Kong Channel. Phoenix Satellite TV targets its coverage on issues spanning Asia-Pacific, Europe and America, and North Africa, thus engaging audiences worldwide. As the Chinese citizenry have risen to achieve global distinction, Phoenix Satellite TV has concomitantly grown to represent the voices of Chinese worldwide.

Under Mr. Liu's leadership and operation, Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited has become a media leader with a distinguished reputation globally, contributing to the betterment of a greater Chinese society. Mr. Liu has obtained widespread recognition both locally and internationally for his enthusiasm for and achievements in the media industry. He has a well-earned reputation as an industry leader as demonstrated by the numerous titles accorded by many sectors of society, including “Wiseman of the Media Industry”, “Leader of Global Mandarin TV Program Providers”, “The Most Innovative Chinese Business Leader” and “The Chinese Business Leader with the Utmost Social Responsibility in the Asia Pacific Region”, and “Top 10 Chinese Leaders in Media Innovation”. In July 2010, Mr. Liu was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star by the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The government praised his contributions to the broadcast and media industry in Hong Kong; under his leadership, the Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV has become a multinational media company. It provides excellent coverage of international Chinese news to audiences around the world.

Moreover, Mr. Liu has demonstrated expertise in the fields of human resources management and education. He has been invited by a number of universities to serve in the capacities of visiting professor, chairman of the Advisory Board, and member of the Board of Directors.
