
Profile of Mr. Vincent H. S. Lo
Mr. Vincent H. S. Lo is the founder and Chairman of the Shui On Group which was established in 1971 when he was 23. Shui On Group engages mainly in property development, construction and construction materials in Hong Kong and Mainland China. He currently serves as a Member of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Shanghai Xintiandi, the new landmark of Shanghai, was founded in 2001 by Mr. Lo. Its success stirred the whole of China, and became a model followed by many other Chinese cities.
Mr. Lo has also been active in community services. He participated in the preparatory work for the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and he made valuable contributions to the moulding of its Basic Law. Mr. Lo was formerly Vice-Chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and Chairman of the Council of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Mr. Vincent H. S. LO is the founder and Chairman of the Shui On Group. He established his company in 1971 in Hong Kong at the young age of 23, after receiving a tertiary education in Australia. His company engages mainly in property development, construction and construction materials in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Mr. Lo has established a very successful business, and has also nurtured a unique corporate culture in his companies based on his strong belief in and commitment to quality, innovation and excellence. He has often said that if he wants to do something, he always makes sure that he will put all his efforts into it and do his best'. Shanghai Xintiandi, the new landmark of Shanghai, was founded in 2001 by Mr. Lo, which converted the historical Shikumen buildings into the modern lifestyle centre in Shanghai. Its success stirred the whole of China, and became a model followed by many other Chinese cities. The corporate culture developed by Mr. Lo and his colleagues throughout the years has now become a model which students study, analyse and research in numerous universities and business schools. Mr. Lo is definitely one of their role models.
Mr. Lo was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS) in 1998, and appointed Justice of the Peace in 1999 by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). He was named Businessman of the Year at the Hong Kong Business Awards in 2001, and won the Director of the Year Award from The Hong Kong Institute of Directors in 2002. In 2005 he received the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres from the French government. Mr. Lo was honoured with the “Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year 2009 China” and also, as “Entrepreneur of The Year 2009” in the China Real Estate Sector. Mr. Lo was made an Honorary Citizen of Shanghai in 1999 and Foshan in 2011. He was the former Vice-chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce.
Mr. Lo has also been active in community services. His other positions include Hong Kong's representative to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council, President of Yangtze Council, Economic Adviser of the Chongqing Municipal Government, and Honorary Life President of the Business and Professionals Federation of Hong Kong. Mr. Lo has also made positive contributions to the education sector. For example, he was previously the Chairman of the Council of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and is currently the Honorary Court Chairman of the HKUST.
As a responsible corporation, Mr. Lo's Shui On Group has initiated a number of charity, education and culture projects which all contribute positively to society. Mr. Lo participates personally in these activities as much as possible. In 2004, Shui On Group, China International Publishing Group (CIPG) and Wen Wei Po published the book 'Stories of China's Reform and
Opening-Up'. The book documents Mr. Lo's love of China; his fervent support for China's opening-up policy and his unfailing efforts in contributing towards China's future
development. Mr. Chairman, in recognition of Mr. Vincent Lo's distinguished contribution to Hong Kong and China, and in appreciation of his support of this College, it is my privilege to present him to you for the award of an Honorary Fellowship.
